Being Southern in California, Part I

So, something that I’ve noticed in California that is just absurd to me is how Californian’s interpret Southern cooking. I primarily say this in terms of corn bread. There are places that are popping up saying they are original ‘Southern Cooking.’ PFFT is what I say to that. The primary thing that I think most people confuse is that SOUTHERNS DO NOT EAT SWEET CORNBREAD WITH THEIR BBQ. Are these people nuts?! EVERYWHERE is sweet cornbread. What is up with that?! (PS: The BBQ isn’t that great either) but come on. If you are going to claim to have ‘Authentic Southern Food’ then don’t give a Southerner sweet corn bread.

Besides the cornbread, I had someone tell me how sweet tea is made. Come on man, I’m sure I know more about sweet tea than you do. It was a skater/biker type kid at that.

I need to open a restuarant but it may be too much for these people to ruin their silly dillusions of what corn bread is suppose to be.

You know that they think BBQ is cooking hamburgers out on a grill. They don’t know what real BBQ is. Maybe you should start a restaurant. They would probably love REAL southern cooking :)
